Why Is Renewable Energy Coming Along So Slowly?

Free White Paper on Survey Results Examines True Impediments Regarding the Move to Clean Energy.

Los Angeles, CA: A brand new 12-page report titled THE IMPEDIMENTS TO RENEWABLE ENERGY summarizes the results of a 2011 survey of over 500 respondents regarding the migration to renewable energy. The free reference features 13 graphs that highlight the core research data and unveils the most current insight into the contemporary considerations regarding renewable energy perspectives.

“I urge folks to download the report and check it out for themselves. There really is some interesting material here.” – Craig Shields, author of the #1 Amazon Best Seller, RENEWABLE ENERGY – FACTS AND FANTASIES

The research addressed one central issue:

The world is moving to clean energy, but at a far slower rate than many people would like to see. But WHY, exactly, IS IT SO SLOW?

In his quest to get at the truth behind the migration to clean energy, Craig Shields, editor of 2GreenEnergy.com, has published the results of a survey that his organization conducted in May, 2011. Of the 500+ respondents who provided their input on the matter, less than one-third cited the costs of clean energy; the vast majority pointed to other forces.

“The world is moving to clean energy,” says Shields, “but at a far slower rate than many people would like to see. But why, exactly, is it so slow? I have my own opinions, but I’m constantly looking for accurate answers to this incredibly important question.”

The report is being hailed as a “terrific attempt” to get a pulse reading on some of the most important issues of the day in the renewables industry:

Elected leaders say the US will lead the world in terms of clean energy. But do citizens believe that?
Do we have a level playing field for fossil fuels, nuclear, and renewables?
Will clean energy bring jobs? Or will it kill them?

“Of course, there is a profound difference between opinion and fact,” Shields acknowledges. “But when enough people share the same opinion, that level of agreement becomes an important fact on its own. That’s the reason for a survey like this. In some cases, perception is reality.”

The report provides a detailed summary of respondents’ beliefs. Participants shed a great deal of light on some really critical issues:

To what degree does the political and economic power wielded by “Big Energy” have a chilling effect on competitive solutions?
What effect do media distortions and oversimplifications play?
What characteristics of Americans are most important in determining how all this will play out?

“I was a bit surprised to see as much political animus, as it were,” Shields said. “I was prepared for people to go on about how expensive renewables are versus the dirtiest forms of coal, how delicate the economic recovery is, and how we simply can’t afford clean energy.”

Indeed, some people do feel this way, as the report reveals in the way respondents rated the following:

Even the mature forms of clean energy (wind and solar photovoltaics) are too expensive. Renewables cannot compete with coal on a cost basis, and people have no appetite for higher energy bills – especially not now, considering the recession and high unemployment.

in terms of the importance of this factor’s role in slowing the path to clean energy.

But they weighed in quite differently on this:

Big oil (and coal, nuclear, etc.) have extremely powerful lobbies that have created an unlevel playing field, favoring their monopolistic positions over renewables.

“I urge folks to download the report and check it out for themselves. There really is some interesting material here,” Shields continued. “I’m always looking for a way forward – for a solution to the problem. But before I can find the solution, I really have to understand what the problem is – or at least what it’s perceived to be.
