Solar Incentives and Grants

There are a wide set of state, regional and municipal incentives to homeowners for solar and other energy efficiency improvements.

The USA program for Solar Energy Systems, covering the 2009-2016 period, is a good example of that.

Solar Water Heating (USA 2009-2016)

Demanded criteria for the tax credit:

– Half or more of the energy generated by the “qualifying property” should come from the sun. Eligible expenses comprise only the spending on the solar water heating system property (not other water heating components of the household).
– The tax credit doesn’t cover for swimming pools and hot tubs, and the water must be used in the dwelling.
– The system should be certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC).

Tax credit amount: 30% of the cost.

PV Solar Electricity Systems (USA 2009-2016)

Demanded criteria for the tax credit:

– The Solar Photovoltaic output should provide electricity for the residence.
– The project should meet applicable fire and electrical code requirement.

Tax credit amount: 30% of the cost.

USA Rebates, Incentives And Tax Credits

Besides Federal tax credits to solar heating systems, you may find more local incentives.

The Recovery Act (USA)

Many of the credit tax and other energy incentives in USA are or will be covered by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, signed into law by President Obama on 2009. It involves an unprecedented public investment, and part of which aims to enhance energy independence and energy improvement and efficiency.
