Tallahassee Grant Program available for low income!

City of Tallahassee Your Own Utilities offers two different grants for its low-income residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Both programs require a free home energy audit in advance to determine the eligibility of the applicant. Applicants must also fit within the qualifying income levels detailed on the website.

The ceiling insulation grant is available to utility customers in both owner-occupied and rental housing. Grants up to $500 are available for extra ceiling insulation where the existing level is deficient (less than R-24). The HVAC repair grant is available to low-income residents living in owner-occupied homes, including mobile homes. It provides grants of up to $500 to clean evaporator coils, repair refrigerant leaks and duct leaks, and other HVAC efficiency improvements.

The City of Tallahassee offers two other grants, the emergency home repair grant ($10,000) and the code enforcement rehabilitation grant ($2,500), which do not exclusively fund energy efficiency but could contribute to the reduction of energy usage within a home. Measures like changing out inoperable heating systems and water heaters or replacing broken windows could be funded by this grant and could improve a home’s energy efficiency.
